[dr malik, a short, portly, middle aged man, walks through the gardens outside the ONRL. his face is soft. wears glases.
it's autumn, there's a wind blowing, sunlight is angled and gold-orange. leaves flt about.]
'Dr. Shahid Malik was walking home during his lunchbreak, with
a head full of science and sufism.'
'when he got the distinct impression that everything around him was insubstantial
[Dr. malik casually stretches out his hand, a falling leaf lands on his fingertips. a hard, light thing]
intellectually he knew this already; advanced physics borders on mysticism
[large panel where we are taken into the leaf. magnification: microscopic > molecular > atomic > quantum. the quantum level, with the looped string to have greatest priority]
but now he could feel it;
the walls, the trees***
the ground beneath his feet
his feet above the ground
all made up of points in space telling each other that they have mass.
lying.
Dr.Shahid could see their language.
little hollow eggs, willing their shells into existence, governing their interactions by the mores of atomic culture.
At the heart*** of each one, the DNA of mass: an imaginary knot of space-time looped into itself.
[dr shahid, amazed (his cig dropping from his lips), looks at this hands, which seem to him to be glowing, crackling,vibrating things]
Dr.Shahid could now hear the the constant chatter between the molecules of his own body, like radio traffic between cities.
wanting to be heard, he cleared is throat.
[dr shahid disappears, VERY ICONIC]
And his matter became aware of him.***
and told him it was eager to join all matter everywhere
His was one voice among a billion billion; how could he
refuse? ***
All the knots of space-time that constituted dr.shahid
unraveled at once.
he became a thing of pure information; pure mathematics.

this instant *** was marked by a second-long interruption in
the workings of tvs, radios, cellphones and computers
everywhere. and every invertebrate alive had a momentary
headache.
He was never seen again. ***
